Looking back on it, June was a crazy month. The weekend after Memorial Day we went to Waco for our adoption seminar. We were able to turn in our formal application at that time. We had a good seminar explaining adoption from a couple of different perspectives. We had a doctor and the lawyer for the agency discuss the medical and legal aspects of adoption. There were a couple of willing birth mothers that shared their stories. I have a huge respect for them, and just like losing 3 kids, I can not imagine all they went through to place their child for adoption. Adoption is truly a God thing, and God wrought. We also heard the stories of adoptive parents that adopted through Generations. One even had a disrupted adoption, but amazingly, God brought along the right mother and situation for them to adopt. Again, Amber and I felt this is God's plan for us. Adoption is not for the weary, and we know it will be a long road. The journey will be tough, and it has been tough enough for us. Still, we will do what God asks us to do, and leave the results to Him.
About a week or two later, we had Father's Day. We had Amber's whole family here to visit us. I had to work over the weekend, but still got in some good family time. Amber and I decided to boycott Mother's Day and Father's Day - just too hard losing the triplets. We had some time eating out and walking around Kemeh. Allie continues to grow more and more.
A couple of days later, Amber and I left for North Carolina. It was good to visit my parents and have some relaxing time in the mountains. It was very relaxing. We woke up every morning to temperatures near 50F and it would maybe warm up to 75 or 80 degrees in the afternoon. We enjoyed the local shopping, hiking along the Blue Ridge parkway, canoing on the river, and cooking s'mores on the grill. Oh ya, we ate a dinner at the Mellow Mushroom, our favorite pizza place. We did have some good thunderstorms one day which actually hailed on us for about 20 minutes. The largest we saw was penny to nickel size. Still, it made eating lunch at the bakery a fun experience. Thanks Mom and Dad for a relaxing vacation.
The action did not stop when we got home from North Carolina. Two days later we had our home study for approval by the adoption agency. Everything went smoothly, and did not have any issues. It was not as tough as I thought it was going to be. But our social worker had questions for the both of us, and then questions for us individually. We also had a garage sale the last weekend in June. We found some things we wanted to sell, namely some furniture and extra baby stuff we had gotten for the triplets. We were able to make about $290 from the sale, and the only thing we did not sell was our futon which is still in good shape. Now we need to shop for a new couch, love seat, and end tables.
