The first week and half, Amber, Emma and I packed up and flew to North Carolina. Flying with a 6 month old could have been worse, but we got to the airport early, waited, and made a safe trip. The security lines could have been worse. Always good to fly in the morning if you can. The first weekend, we visited Scott's uncle Gordon and Aunt Nancy, and cousins David and Jeff. All of our families got together to celebrate Gordon and Nancy's wedding anniversary. It was a good time to see everyone, and catch up on our families. We missed my brother Todd and his family joining us there.
On the way home, we stopped by the summit of Mount Mitchell which is the tallest peak in the North Carolina Appalachian Mountain chain. It was 45-50 degrees with fog the whole time. It was quite windy as well. The pictures did not come out as well since it was so foggy. We eventually made it back to the mountain home in West Jefferson, NC. We did have a couple of down times but we did do our usual sites and shops. This meant pizza at the Mellowmushroom, shopping at the Mast General stores in Valle Cruses and Boone, NC. We also did a driving tour of the Blue Ridge Parkway to see all the fall foliage. We hiked a 2 mile trail of Linnville Falls off the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was cool and cloudy, but a good hike. The waterfalls were amazing. By far, the most fun was a 3 mile hike down the Virginia Creeper railroad. Normally you bike this 20 mile trail, but we hiked 3 miles of it pushing Emma in the stroller. We were able to take lots of pictures, and had a wonderful time having a lunch time picnic. It was quite cool there as well, comparable to Houston in the winter months. It was nice to wear jeans, jackets and sweatshirts again. Overall it was a great trip and lots of fun with my parents, Grammie and Popa.
The end of the month marked Emma's 7th month. With Emma's reflux improving, we decided to put her in her crib to sleep. This was a success, but we had to put the crib mattress all the way at the bottom. Emaa learned quickly to pull herself up and stand up in the crib. She had already learned how to pull up and crawl some, but after this, we knew we are in for some trouble.
The first picture is just a good one of Emma. The second picture is me on the Virginia Creeper railroad trestle. The next picture is the Blue Ridge Parkway Via Duct. The next picture is Amber and Emma at the Linnville Falls. The last picture is Amber and Emma at the summit of Mt Mitchell.
